Just saw something on a website for Dale Hollow info that said you are only allowed to have 3 rods in your boat in Tenn. Anybody know if that is correct or did I misunderstand something?

I would say you miss understood it.That probably has something to with trolling.

TN Fish and Wildlife Regulations for 2010 are: Only 3 poles can be fished at the same time per Angler from a boat and only 6 poles can be fished per Angler at the same time from the shoreline. You can have 100 rods in the boat but only 3 per Angler in the boat can be in the water at the same time fishing.
