Lake Cumberland ramps closed June 5&6

For those that may have missed the announcement, the Offshore Super Series off shore race boats will be running on Lake Cumberland on the east end June 5th and 6th. The lake will be closed from about Burnside Marina to Waitsboro during the races. The boat ramps at Burnside Island and Waitsboro recreation are will also be closed both days during the event.

This location is on the east end of the lake right where the Cumberland River and The Big south Fork River meet at Burnside. The closure area is only about 1.5 ~ 2 miles in length, but the 2 ramps being closed to the public I thought you should know about so you can all plan accordingly.

Below is a copy and paste from the official race website www.lakecumberlandgrandprix.com

Two primary boat launching facilities in and around the Lake Cumberland Grand Prix race course will be closed to the public on June 5 and 6 to give drivers and their racing teams full access to Lake Cumberland.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that boat ramps at General Burnside Island State Park and Waitsboro Recreation Area will be closed to the public all day both race days on June 5 and 6. The Lake Cumberland Grand Prix powerboats will launch from a secured boat launching ramp at General Burnside Island State Park during the race weekend.

However, boat launching ramps will be open with limited parking at Slate Branch, Lee’s Ford Marina, Waitsboro Landing, Echo Point, and Cave Creek. Boaters who wish to launch their boats to access Lake Cumberland to watch the race from designated spectator areas on the water around the course are asked to use these ramps to do so.

In addition, more designated parking areas have been added to the list of official sites where spectators can park their vehicles and ride a free shuttle to Waitsboro Recreation Area—the premier site to view the race from land or water—on Saturday and Sunday.

The free shuttle service will operate on both June 5 and 6 from the following parking areas: The Center, 2292 South U.S. 27 at Traffic Light 15; North and South Campuses of Somerset Community College, located off of Monticello Street; Coldwell Banker Foster Real Estate Inc., 5383 South U.S. 27; Pulaski County Area Technology Center, located behind Hardee’s South at 3825 U.S. 27; and Southern Elementary School and Southern Middle School, both located behind Somerset Mall on Enterprise Drive.

Race access at Waitsboro Recreation Area is $10 per day for adults and $5 per day for children ages three through 12. Each shuttle rider will receive a colored wristband, which gives them access to race viewing areas and transportation to and from the race site at any time during the day.
These fees are also in effect should spectators park in alternate locations near Waitsboro Recreation Area and wish to enter the course on foot to view the race.

Due to activities surrounding the race, there will not be any designated parking for spectators at Waitsboro Recreation Area

Hopefully they don't hit a log like I did yesterday morning before daylight, it was a pretty good one. Knocked some more paint off the skeg but no hull damage that I can see. Only big one in Indian creek and I had to find it, lol.

Saw a ton of lumber this morning in the mouth of Beaver and Otter. Some good ones too. Depending on the wind, didn't see a lot of em till we rolled right up on them. Felt like we were playing Frogger. My guess is a lot of power and speed boats lose some transoms and paint this weekend. Almost want to pick a point, take some long chairs, a cooler and enjoy the show.....
