On the 6th of June, a friend and I are heading to Alpena, Michigan for a week of fishing for anything up there that will bite a hook. This morning we were discussing what our days would be like up there, speciafically the hours/times that we expect to be on the water. I did some checking on the Weather Channel website and found something that other people may be interested in for planning an out of state fishing trip.
In our hemisphere, at this time of year, the further North you go the earlier the sun rises and the later it sets; and the further South you go, the later it rises and the earlier it sets. I have always know this but didn;t really see how it affected my fsihing until now.
Alpena is in the Northern part of lower Michigan and the sun rises a full 30 minutes earlier there than it does in Louisville and sets about 15 minutes later. That means to be on the water when the sun comes up, we are going to have to get up VERY EARLY!!
CITY SUNRISE SUNSET
Alpena 5:51 9:12
Detroit 5:59 9:01
Louisville, KY 6:22 8:59
Tallahassee, FL 6:36 8:33
Interesting, eh?
