Hit the pool at Tyrone last night. A little current and water was what I would term murky.

I'm probably paddling up from around Lock 7 into the DIX, but not too sure.

You think that is something that can be done.......the current, as long as it is not more than 1-2mph should not be too much problem.

More than that though, and I should VETO the idea.

    What do you think.

I don't have a feel about canoes, but my gut feeling is you should be OK on the majority of the river.

I've used a canoe in the Kentucky around the mouth of the Dix many times. Haven't been recently but I doubt the current would be much of a problem. Boat traffic is usually pretty light. It will be blazes hot out there this weekend, though.

Re: What is KY River new Harrodsburg like....

I have been hankering the same trip. Never did it before but have read and heard that it is a beautiful stretch with some interesting fishing. Was going to do it next week while on vacation with my wife on the back side of a natural bridge trip but opted to take the canoe down red river while we are close.

I have been watching the ky river gauge and I take it that 9' - 10' is normal summer flow at High Bridge. Currently gauge is 10.32' so I would think it is just slightly up from norm. I did find another launch spot for the Dix but it has a restriction. The Pleasant Hill gang has a ferry landing off Shaker Ferry Road which I believe is closer to the mouth of the Dix than above lock 7. You can launch a canoe there no problem but the twist is they close the road down to the river at 5 pm. So if you plan a trip to end prior to closing that could save some paddling...

That's a trip I should make more often considering the put-in is only 5 minutrs from my house and I own 2 kayaks.
