You could just have the twist handle on whatever power setting u choose and install a footswitch that makes contact when you depress it. I would break the positive wire through the switch going to the battery.

I know a trolling motor takes all the fun out of kayaking...blah, blah, blah. Just to get that out of the way.
My question is:
Is there any type of switch (small) that I can buy to replace the twist throttle switch on my trolling motor? I want to mount the T/M on the stern of the kayak, but I will need a switch near me to turn it on/off.
Any ideas?

Minn Kota makes a foot switch for about $12 I've been useing them tor the past 20 yrs on my boat. Its called a big foot. has way to lock switch closed for continuose operation or tap it to bump motor for how ever long. Great switch for the price.
Our WalMart here in Florence carries the switches so yours might too. Good luck!
If you put a motor (electric or gas) on it, you have to register and license it just like you would a canoe with your resident county if I'm not mistakin. At least I know that was the law in the past. The State and County want their tax money. So, you might want to verify this before you hit public waters anyway. . .
Yes.... you do have to register any powered watercraft including kayak...
