William “Bud” Foshee of Birmingham, Ala. will now have a chance to land a 50-inch muskellunge, a 10-pound largemouth bass, hand-sized bluegill, 2-foot-long hybrid striped bass and shellcrackers as long as a tackle box.
Foshee did not have to hire a cadre of fishing guides to take him from great fishing spot to great fishing spot all over Kentucky, but all he did was win the 2010 Trolling for Trophies drawing. Plus, he will have not have to drive to Kentucky Lake and then to Barren and on to a great farm pond to get a chance at fish of this quality.
Foshee will fish one 13-acre lake owned and managed by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, where the trophies swimming in it have not once seen a lure. Fisheries biologists select the fish in this lake for their superior genetics and ability to produce trophy offspring.
The Trolling for Trophies drawing benefits the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Foundation. Funds collected through the Trolling for Trophies drawing supports youth conservation education at the Salato Wildlife Education Center and the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Conservation Camps.
The winner of the Trolling for Trophies drawing will be guided by Tim Farmer, host of the “Kentucky Afield” television show. A future “Kentucky Afield” show will document their day fishing this tremendous lake together later this fall.
Foshee will also stock up on free fishing equipment with the $1,000 Bass Pro Shops shopping spree he won as part of the drawing. He will also be able to bring along a friend or relative to fish with him.
This year, 158 people entered the drawing. A single chance at the Trolling for Trophies drawing cost $25, with six tickets for $100, and $250 bought 15 chances plus a signed Rick Hill print of the three black bass in Kentucky.
