We had 17 kayak anglers brave the 28 degree temps last Saturday. There was white frost on some of the kayaks. For most, it was their first time in a tournament event. Brian Slone won the men's division and grand prize which was a $900- Wilderness Systems Tarpon120 kayak. His daughter, Carrie, age 11 caught a 11/625" black bass winning the youth division. Gene Nelson won 2nd place in the men's. The women didn't catch any so names were pulled. Melinda Stein won first and Leslie Price won second. The winner of the $275.00 Reel Recovery fly rod package goes to Pamela Funk. So deserving as her husband passed away from cancer too year ago. It was a great event with so many sponsors.Fatman's BBQ catered an awesome dinner and Down River Country Band played both nights. I'm in the process of organizing another, either the last weekend in April or first in May. If anyone is interested in following the tournament progress and interested to compete and even willing to donate a sponsor prize/raffle, go to Yakangler.com. The name of the tournament will be KFD - Kentucky Fishing Derby! Horses and fish. I love this state!
Sounded like a good time. I'm keeping my eyes open for a good deal on a fishing yak. Would love to join you someday.
