Punisher Lures are the best hair jigs that I have ever used.
Punisher jigs are ALL THAT.
Paint on a jig head is over rated.Never seen a jig that was lucky enough to be bounced over rocks for a few hours that had paint on the bottom side.I have over the years used a lot of jigs without paint and seemed to catch as good as painted ones.Good ties are important if not fishing in rocks as rocks will get them pretty soon anyway. Before I started tying my own would not fish hair jigs in rocks because of they were expensive but after starting to tie my own most all jigs I use have hair.

The only one's I have ever used are the Punisher, but they have served me well.
Hair and feather jigs will out fish plastics, especially in cold clear water and when vertically jigging. Hair and feathers seem to breath while sitting still unless you have them doped up. In cold clear water you don't need much action because the baitfish are not as active so the hair and feather jigs is a good immitation. When the water warms up and fish become more active, plastics with flash and flare may be better. Another plus for hair and feather jigs is they are more durable that plastics.
I have used Booyah and Punisher and have done well. The best luck I have had with hair jigs are with the ones that I have tied.
I use the ones I tie and have for years. A hair jig is one of the first bass jigs I learned to tie, that was (MANY) a smallmouth ago...
I have had success with hand tied black bear hair jigs with Uncle Josh as a trailer. They work well if you can find someone who hunts bear? A bear's hair repels water. An old man makes them for me.
Hair Jigs that are fished in the rocks need to be tied differently. They will need two or three whips located inside the winding before the final finishing whip is tied. The winding will then need to be saturated with head cement and allowed to dry for maybe 48 hours before it gets wet.
Good hair jicks work well to catch dogs too. One of my dogs will clean the hair clean off without getting it stuck in him!
