Man I know the feeling of hooking a 20lb plus drum and thinking its a giant smallie. in the western basin of Erie we catch drum like that all the time and every single time you're like is it a smallie? and as soon as you realize it isn't coming up to jump you know its a **** drum....they do put up a nice fight though...

I've been awarded the prestigious title of Capt. Sheephead while fishing up there many times!!!! LOL

They can't resist a curly tailed grub or a Silver Buddy....

Neat video. I caught a true Carp out of Cumberland that weighed a fuzz over 25lb on a jig once. After a short few seconds though I knew it wasn't a bass and had to be something else so I figured big catfish. To my amazement it was a Carp and it hit the jig, it was hooked right in the corner of it's mouth.

Caught one that size at Kentucky lake last spring. I couldn't keep the drum off my crankbaits. You are right they go strange for deep water like a small then turn to dead weight.

    Re: Dale Hollow trash fish

I caught one similar (a bit smaller though) on Herrington one morning. I was fishing alone with one of my favorite crank baits. It was a discontinued model and I was scared I would break off. I was really babying the fish to make sure that the line did not break. Near by was a family getting ready to go tubing. They wached with awe as I landed it. They said they had never seen a fish that big and did not know there was anything like that in the lake. They then asked if they could take my picture with it, and I reluctantly agreed. I lived in fear for weeks that my picture would show up in the news paper with my "Trophy Fish". Glad I have never seen that picture!

have caught a few smaller than that, but still big fish. Why since they like to hit crank baits and jigs are they considered such a rtrash fish?On the gulf one winter near port arthur tx caught one that two of us had trouble lifting out of the water, it was a black drum. The red fish everyone talks about is also a drum. Down in the bayou country they fish for gaspergus, when I seen one that prize was a drum.
