My first one was a Zebco 77 combo.
Learned to cast the old knuckle buster baitcasters in about 1946 when about 7 years old.Did get a Zebco 33 in about 1960 to cast the light Rapala's.Still keep a couple 33's for my wife to use.For my oldest son's 7 th. birthday got him a 202 combination.A few days later he hooked and landed a 15 lb. catfish that ruined the reel.

I still have an old 202 and the yellow rod. I don't know how I ever set the hook with that old rod. I also have one of the first 33's. It sure was made better than the 33's today.Boy does that bring back memories.
When I was a kid that is what I started with. We would buy them at Wiggs or K-Mart for .99 cents I think. If we could scrape up 2 or 3 dollars we would get the 404. It was twice the size of the 202. We had zebco yellow solid fiber glass rods.
We would camp out at the Blue Grass sportsman club on richmond road if anyone remembers that place. I've had catfish rip the guts right out of the reel.
