Not a mechanic but it sounds like it may be the relay switch

    Re: tilt problems

x2 on the relay switch. Same thing happened to me on Guntersville...unfortunately I was on the water when the "up" relay switch went out and the motor was tucked completely under the boat. Made for an interesting story when I loaded my boat on the trailor.

Long story short, I did everything I could to keep the skag from dragging on the ramp...didn't work. I ended up wading in 48 degree water, using a tire jack to jack the trailor AND boat up a few inches so I could release the power trim switch manually then physically lift the 150 hp motor high enough to put the transom saver under the lower unit. All this for a part that cost $8.00.

Hope this doesn't happen to you!!

First I would check battery and connections. Remember that the trim will be slower as the fluid is much thicker in this cold temp. there are two relays on the moter. They are square building block shaped plugs. One for up and one for down. They are interchangable. Swap them and see if the moter won't go up.
