Not to be starting any kinda political debate here, but the Clinton Administration hit us pretty hard in the nineties as I recall? They cut the funding, but didn't shut her down. This sounds like a total shut down across the U.S.
for all of those who wanted smaller government, cutting funding for the fish hatcheries is part of it.hey all, if you enjoy fishing below wolfe creek dam (its a beautiful river whether you catch anything or not) it may concern you to learn that the future of wolfe creek national fish hatchery as well as many other us fish and wildlife funded cold water fish hatcheries may have bleak futures.
if you are concerned and would like to learn more and how you may be able to have your voice heard you can go to www. friends of wolfe creek hatchery . com . click on the "funding cuts" tab for the info.
thanks, jeff
if this thread belongs in the "off topic" section so be it, it does however directly affect the future of a very popular FISHERY.
No reason to make it political Barkley, please refrain so this doesn't get moved or shut down.
#1069 Nice attempt barkley!
I agree. As much as I love the Cumberland fishery that the hatchery supports and have enjoyed it over the years, our entire way of life is threatened if we don't cut spending. If you think the 08 meltdown was bad, what is coming will not compare. There is a $1.1 trillion deficit in Obama's 2012 budget. It will take radical change in thinking to fix this problem even from fisherman.
Btw, this became a political post when it started. Again I don't want to lose it, just trying to get people to start thinking about the new reality we are living in.
Attention Etcfishin, Barkleyhawgittter, etc.
Instead of making Political Post on this thread, Why don't you just start Your Own Thread on the Off Topic Board, then you can make all the Political comments you desire?
I think we all understand that it is political...however, the point is, this isn't the forum for that.

it is political. get over it. the only way to save it is to get mcconnell and paul to keep it in the appropriation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you dont get that then you need to tear up the petition. i guarantee 80% of the folks that have signed the petition demanded the spending cut in the first place. letters and calls need to go to the senators offices to say we made a mistake and need to keep this funding. its political because politicians are the only ones who have the money for it. get it???????
This is in reference to this thread started on the KY forum:

This sticks out to me: "Wolf Creek NFH (KY), Neosho NFH (MO), Greers Ferry NFH and Norfork NFH (AR), Chattahoochee NFH (GA), Dale hollow NFH and Erwin NFH (TN), Garrison Dam NFH (ND), and Jones Hole NFH (UT). In 2009, these facilities produceda total of 12,786,600 fish and 15,924,000 eyed eggs, which directly supported 3,500 jobs and nearly $325 million in total economic benefit to local and state economies from Service operated mitigation facilities. As many as 65 employees would be impacted."
Plus, they are not cutting the budget for USFWS they are actually adding $10 million for landscape conservation? What is the economic impact for this? ZERO as far as I can find out. There are other things in HB1 that affect fisheries. Here is more about the damage this can do to fisheries everywhere.

What about the money from all of us buying fishing licensees
