If you do not have it on it is not counted as a PFD But if you keep a standard one in your dry box to show them if you do not have it on you will be fine.

Could some one tell me for sure: Does an inflatable PFD like the Mustang count as a lifejacket for legal purposes if it is not worn, but is in the boat? Please no lectures on "why not wear it". I fully intend to wear it at all times, but in case I do not have it on for some crazy reason, will the water patrol count it as a lifejacket?
Thanks!

I cant remember the class number rating of an approved life vest but I am sure if you look on the KY Fish and Wildlife web site you shoould be able to find the class number rating. Somewhere on the life vest there should be a tag with the classl rating of the life vest. Some life vest are not approved for use under operation/movement with the big motor but they will still save you if you fall out while fishing. Plesae look up the numeber and do not go by my "word" I "think" a class II or class III is what you need.
