    Lake St. Claire Advise

Dad and I are heading up to St. Claire to chase some smallies next week. Was wondering if anyone on here has experience on that lake and if you have any suggestions as to what type of baits to take up there. Will be our first time on that lake and are really looking forward to it!

    Thanks

i have only fished it in the spring but from what i understand you just find what depth they're in and then find the grass. Most people throw tubes and they work good but you can throw most types of grubs and small(4 to 6") worms. thats what we use in the spring just in much shallower water and do really good. good luck and let us know how you do. i know theres a couple other guys on here that fish there too.

I fished there in July 1 time. Find the grass! Spinnerbaits, tubes, grubs all worked.

What part of the lake are you fishing? U.S. side fishes a little deeper. Like they said ...find the grass. Canada side is very shallow with weeds galore in the summer.

Mitchells Bay on the Canadian side. Water was 6-15 ft.

Thanks guys! I think we're staying in the St. Claire Shores area. Sounds like the Canada end of the lake is a better area to fish - how much are the Canadian licenses? We'll only be there a couple of days.

I do not recall exactly, but you can get 3 day licences.

A seven day canada license and a walpole indian license total to be about 50 bucks. Not sure about 3 day. A would target areas where the sandflats meet weedbeds for smallies. There should be largemouth bass and rockbass in the thicker weedbeds. The evening bite was always pretty good for us this time of year. TUBES!!!
