I know I know...Wrong state. But I am heading up there tomorrow night and will be there until next friday. We will be staying in Ludington, and I will probably fish from the pier or breakwalls the whole time. Can anyone ever share any experience, tips, strategies? I have fished through a charter previously up there, but from everything I can tell/remember, the boat fishing is totally different then pier/shore fishing that I have been researching.
First of all, if you have a due east wind, fishing is awfull tough on any break water,Waves can get up to 4 high quickly, and the water will warm up quickly. Its way to early for any salmon action, and dont know if they stocked the summer run steelhead that far north. Good news, Small mouth bass, off shore wind pier heads and fish close to the end of the pier, on shore wind fish the river side of the pier, SMB will always stay near the river. This time of year large shiners work best, soft shells are dynomite, if you can get them. Also #9 shad raps in the river.
