I would like for someone to post what they know about the FNF in hopes it will help a Rookie out
what Charlie Nuckolas said, fish slow, keep your knot on top, and watch your float.... (o:
Gary
I have never tryed it but then when its cold i like hard water too fish where i can drive my auto out on it & sit in the heat & watch the tip ups or sit in a headed shanty and spear northern pike.Anyone want too go north and try it i'm game after the 1st of the yr.
Guys don't let Mr Smallmouth himself fool you. If it's still in the archives you can read reports on Dale for days coming from this man. Yes a proven master of the fly with a Billy Westmorland Classic trophy to prove it.
Enough said sorry to hear Elnut that you are not going to be able to fish again this year although the smallies are probably happy now their mouths won't be sore. I know your getting the itch because your talking about smallies again. Good luck with your surgery and may it be your last.
I appreciate it but many more surgeries to come for me.Guys don't let Mr Smallmouth himself fool you. If it's still in the archives you can read reports on Dale for days coming from this man. Yes a proven master of the fly with a Billy Westmorland Classic trophy to prove it.

That is too bad you are going to be out again this year. Well in your honor I am going to dedicate all the SM that I catch on the fly this winter.
I will try to explain the ole Float N Fly to you.
First you need to go get you a donut float and catch a few common house flies in a jar (make sure you poke holes in the lid). Then go out to your favorite fishin hole and float in the water with your donut float. Tie on one of the house flies to a fly rod and wait for a big ole small jaw to hit it. Once you get hit HOLD ON. The small jaw will prolly pull you around in your float for a few hours before it gives up and you can bring it in.
Don't know much about it but getting ready to pour and tie a couple 1000...lol...I hear it's going to be a long cold winter...lol..
Elwood, the float 'n' fly used to be a great tactic for putting wintertime smallies in the boat. It has been ruined by some guy constantly talking about it on fishin.com and then some outdoor writers (the scourge of the earth) writing about it in magazines. Be glad you don't have to sit out in the freezing cold wasting your time fishing the fnf. Stay warm and comfy, sip some bourbon and avoid wintertime highland reservoir fishing. Nothing good could ever come from it!
