I am pretty sure the jawline on this fish did not go back past the eye (I definitely notice a smaller mouth than a LM), but I am not positive it is a spot. Anybody tell me what they think?

Yeah, I kinda believe the bigger the bait ,the bigger the fish. But I do have alot smaller stuff I will try to. Reason I was using it was it was bright colored and the day was overcast. Both fish hit the same one. The bass wasn't much bigger than the lure itself, and the mooneye didn't look like it could even fit the whole lure in its mouth if it wanted to.
Thats a Ky bass amd a mooneye for sure,,,
Those river fish are forced to be pretty opportunistic feeders most of the time. Right before and after winter they will attempt to eat about anything they can catch, even if they can only knock a piece off. Fish are crazy. Oh, you'll find more spotted bass in slow to moderate current, water too still for smallies and too fast for largemouth is usually full of them, in moving water. In lakes they will generally be closer to smallmouth haunts. Most don't get very big but they are very aggressive and a blast to catch on light tackle. Wait until you hook a big drum. You'll think you have a rock or a log until... Or a nice size flat head. Those boys there are a blast. For the man in the awesome kayak; my bias makes me think that fish looks like a spotted bass from the patterning but from that angle it is really hard to tell. Check this out and see what you think http://fw.ky.gov/pdf/kyfishid.pdf.

Upon further inspection I believe that may be a mooneye in your pic instead of a regular Skippie...

Moons are great striper bait where present too. They'll keep well in a tank unlike skippies. Best bet to catch em is to fish a cricket or meal worm a couple feet under a small float. They prefer insects to minnows so it's rare to catch them using the same tactics used when fishing for skips.
Nice, very nice. Chuck and I had around 90lb Friday in four fish. Big fish was a 55lb 3oz. I let one get away on a double hook up trying to get Chuck's better fish in the net that would have went around 35 or so or we would have had a real hefty five sack. Bite lasted about 40 minutes and was just nuts, then you couldn't make'em bite, weird North wind change or something.......A.K.A. White Gold for us catfisherman

Hey Lowe what did that big one weigh in that pic???
Those are some nice blues there fellas. Real nice.
We lucked out that day using that bait shown. 2 Day event with 106 boats. We had 150lbs on day one and 94lbs on day two. Day one was nuts, we had nearly 500 lbs of fish by noon and left that spot alone for day two. No huge pigs, the biggest was 45 but that spot was loaded with 20-40 lb fish. Lots of that type bait around where Chuck fishes... I've been threatening to fish with him for years now - one of these days we'll hook up.
