I like Garmin when it comes to GPS. Go to a store where they have them turned on and you can look at the simulation mode.

Looking at buying a GPS for the boat for the upcoming season. Hoping to get out on some new lakes and think it would be helpful. Was considering going the handhelp GPS route to save money since I already have a basic fishfinder. Any suggestions on which handheld units work the best for fishing? Looking for something that can plot points and keep me from losing track of the boat ramp. Also not looking to spend several hundred dollars. Definitely on a tight budget but have some gift cards that could lighten the blow. Thanks in advance.

Got a smart phone ? Get the Navionics App 10 bucks.
About ten years ago bought my first gps,s thought same would help me find where I launched at on a strange lake, plus many places look like the main(example grassy creek kerr res) easy to turn up it than continue on.Yes bought a handheld,it shows where you are ,gives speed distance etc and one can even buy a holder for them.
They dont however show contour just topo, but got me back cheaply where I started and beats stopping and asking.Turn on prior to trip can backtrack even in the vehicle as they also show roads.
Now days im eq with marine gps units,5 in screens but the handheld served its purpose.
At hock shops or ebay can get a used but working model for 50 bucks, and up like larger ones the more features the more money.
