    iPhone fishing log apps

Does anyone use them? I have been thinking about getting one. Any thoughts?

I have the iLivewell and it stinks. You have got to be quick on draw to take a pic. The app has a variety of species (all bass species, catfish, all panfish, musky, pike, 3 or 4 trout species) to choose from. Weights are calculated by length and girth, so you have to get the measurements before you can get a weight that won't be completely accurate. By the time you get all the measurements and snap the picture the fish has been out of the water for way too long. I believe in getting a fish back in the water ASAP, so I just take a pic, weigh it if its a donkey, and release them. This app is a waste of money and Bassmaster mag was where I found the reference to it.

The only app I use is Navionics, but I only use it to mark tracks and waypoints. I don't have any experience with any other apps, so that's the best I can give you -- DON'T GET iLIVEWELL.

Try www.onlinefishinglog.com. It's free and very good. They also have printable fishing log forms if you would rather have a notebook and hand write in a log. What I do is use the printable log and keep them in a notebook and then use that form to enter your online info on your account.

I think the best way to use it is to try and fill it out at the end of each day. I can usually remember what I catch, where I catch it, and what on. etc etc. and at the end of the day fill out the paper version and then log it on online later. Because it is hard once you've caught a fish to put down your rod and say welp gotta log this one in, that would really be pretty silly to do that. I think surely we can all remember what we do on the water at least at the end of just one day.

Is that the Navionics Ipad and or Iphone app.

    Only costs $10?

If so, do you have to be in an area with an internet cell connection to view the maps on your device or can you download the maps of the lake before you go?

    Thanks for the input.

You can download the maps before you go by dragging points over a certain area (rectangular shape) and adjusting/cropping them. Pretty neat feature. Otherwise, you will need cell service.

Its for both iPhone and iPad and theres even a version for your PC. You download the coverage area you want, which the entire U.S. is included at no extra cost. And like Shimano said if you have them predownloaded before you go fishing then its all already there ready to go regardless of cell service.
