alot of people are hooking them to there jackplate. just make sure it's high enough to be out of the water on plane. It will save you about 200$. Get on bassboatcentral.com and look vandenburg he's the si king apparently.

I have a 2005 stratos 201xl and was adding the 898si unit and was needing to know where are people putting their transducers at?With the money these things cost is there a good place to mount these out of the way?Thanks for any help.

You won't have 2D readings for depth on plane mounted on jackplate, but if you have a thru hull ducer for 2D you'll be fine. The plate is the only safe place to mount a side imaging transducer.
A lot of folks are putting their S I units on their trolling motors. In this way you can shoot under docks & the likes which is very handy. If you get a unit with an external antenna you can put antenna at front of hull & unit in dash or Ram Mounted beside console & when you return to a marked waypoint you'll always be facing it which I personally prefer. Way easier to find something marked off shore than with the antenna mounted in the rear of the hull.
