    Taylorsville tailwater

    Anyone seen the tailwater of taylorsville lake? Is the water high? I see that it's almost at winter pool stage so I'm just checking before I drive out there.

    It was there a week ago and it was half way up the rocks above the sidewalks.

    Good luck, let us know the condition.

    Hi Folks,
    Here is how I check how much water they are letting out at the tailwaters;
    -Click the 3rd button from the left at the top of this page that says fishing reports
    -Select Kentucky fishing report
    -Click on item in left column that says Daily Lakes Report
    -Scroll down to find the tailwater you want to check
    -Find column that says 6AM outflow CFS (Cubic Feet per Second)
    For Taylorsville, 50 CFS is slack water; I think 200-500 CFS is ideal;
    1000 CFS is probably up over the sidewalk.
    In general , they need to be letting water out for the bite to be good.
    Good Luck,
    Kurt

    Best way to know the conditions before going to any Army Corp of Engineers dam is to check the Louisville region corp site.
    http://www.lrl.usace.army.mil/

    Click on the Lake/River reports on the left tab
    Then, click on the Daily Lake Report

    In my experience,
    Outflows below 500: fishing all the way to the dam is possible.
    500-1000: fishing just past basin is possible
    1000-2000: fish the eddies down stream.
    2000+: fishing possible, but difficult as water levels & currents will be high.

    I always check the corp site before going out to a tailwater. Usually updated by 10am with current outflows. Good luck

    Didn't get go over the weekend, but am definitely going tomorrow. Going to get some minnows. Should I let them drift across the bottom or suspend them with a bobber and let them drift down river? Man I hope it is a good day to catch those cold blooded animals!!

    Re: Taylorsville tailwater

    Went this morning. Water level was kinda high but the sidewalks where uncovered so I gave it a shot. Caught one good sized crappie, and 2 what I think are rock bass. They opened the spillway up even more while there and the water went up a couple feet. Stayed there until 11 then went over to the state boat ramp. Didn't catch anything there. Should have stuck it out at the tailwaters I guess. First couple fish of the year though, let's hope I can add to the fish dinner soon. Crappie caught on minnow, and rock bass caught on minnow and night crawler. All fish were at the bottom. Didn't catch any shad in the cast net either.
