Everyone agrees that flag burning should be at least a felony. But these a--holes singing the national antheme should be publicly whipped. We have had thousands of men and women die for our country, why should we have clowns desecrate our national anthem? If you cant respectivly sing it, DONT.
I missed this. What happened?
Whining about Steven Tyler.......It wasn't bad that bad, but it wasn't really good either.
It is a pretty tough song to sing, let alone sing good.....And a hard rocker like Tyler can only do what he did.........

Geo
I'm sick of all these so called "artists" that need to stylize that song.Sure its tough, thats why maybe a band should play it. Or have the pledge of allegiance said at public gatherings. A lot of sentiment has been that America The Bueatiful should be sung.
Geo you hit it spot on. He is a rocker and it is hard to sing when you are used to loud guitars and such, most rock singers have to shout or really push to get above the drummers and other players. And you become used to that and its hard to sing somewhat quite, I know Ive been playin for over 25 yrs,but he is also getting up in age so his voice is starting to show the wear. If you wanna here him really sing, throw on "Sick as a Dog" or some early Aerosmith stuff, man the boy had some pipes back then.
I like that idea. It's a MUCH much better song than The Star Spangled Banner.
America the Beautiful
Words by Katharine Lee Bates,
Melody by Samuel Ward
1. O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
2. O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
3. O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
4. O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
5. O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!
6. O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!
7. O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!
8. O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee!
And crown thy good with brother hood!
From sea to shining sea!
Nothing wrong with America the Beautiful....but gall dang....it would be the 3rd Quarter of the Super Bowl by the time they got through the whole thing.
I say we just keep singing the National Anthem. It has worked for a long time just fine. If some folks want to style it up a little bit, I really have no big problem with that. It's the land of the free, after all.
And flag burning, while deplorable and worthy of a good old fashioned country ass-whuppin IMO....should not be a felony.
The Star Spangled Banner is very difficult for me to sing and I've never understood why the music was so choppy with low to suddenly high notes. I can sing The Lord's Prayer and Ave Maria and hit every note but I completely murder The Star Spangled Banner. I've elected to play the piano and let some other sucker do the singing.
I believe that, if a person is going to sing The Star Spangled Banner at a public event, he/she should be able to read music and have the voice control to do a good job instead of making a Roseanne a s s out of themselves.
My 2-cents
Probably because Francis Scott Key's tune was "borrowed" from an English drinking song. Those big changes in pitch are a lot easier to handle, and probably sound a lot better, after a few pints.
I was just a little surprised he was doing it, but maybe like Roseanne, he wanted to redeem himself. Anybody remember when he sang the Anthem at Indy?
".... and the land of the.... Indianapolis five hundred!" He got a lot of grief for that, as he should have.
The song is hard to sing, and I have no problem with someone who gets up there and has a hard time. I can even forgive someone who forgets the words, especially if it's a kid, as long as they're up there trying. What you do NOT do is get up there and change the words! And yes, you can make it your own, but don't go changing the tune and the phrasing; people want to be able to sing along. I hate it when some singers try and turn it into a jazz piece.
