    reelfoot lake

I've never been before going to be doing bass and some crappie fishing. Just looking for some good areas to fish what type of baits and what to expect. We are going the first weekend in march. Any info will be great.

    Thanks
    Chuck

Actually never fished it,but fairly shallow stay in the boat lanes.
It and Murphies pond ky have the highest populations of cottonmouths in the world, and the two alligators are protected species in Tn now.
Watch Bill Dance videos he flips to the bald cypress knees.

It is full of stumps, and depending upon the lake level you may see many of them...or not until it is too late. I use a jet when I go but still have to travel slow. There are no marked channels or lanes, but a good depth finder and lake map (Hotspots) will help a lot. March bite will mostly be crappie, bass usually don't turn on until later in April to early May. But you biggest concern after the stumps is almost always the wind. Kirby's Pocket is a good spot to begin, get some minnows at one of the bait shops and ask what the current color/bait is. Good luck, we will be there end of March!

    reelfoot lake catfish

Hey fella, I was just looking for some info on the catfishing down at reelfoot. I've heard they are good eating and decent size. I travel different states ever year catfishing from Alabama, Ohio, South Carolina, lower parts of Kentucky. Looking to make a trip to reelfoot soon. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Chuck,

I duck hunt Reel foot 3 or 4 times a year and to say it has a lot of stumps is an understatement #1 rule that my buddies who live and are on the lake all the time tell me is rent a boat do not run a fiberglass boat on this lake. I agree with the previous post early march will definitely be Crappie time use a 1/16 oz jig and tube tipped with a minnow.
