I am getting a drift sock and am curious if anyone here owns one? Do they help slow you down in the wind? I've seen mixed reviews.

I actually have two and have used them a lot in Florida - they will keep you fishing in some stiff winds.... I am heading to St Clair in June and will be taking them with me.
thanks for the help guys i don't fish big water but i have a 17 foot aluminum bass boat and once the wind gets over 15 mph it makes it impossible for me to fish slow. i get thrown around like a ragdoll
I have one that I use on a 17’ aluminum boat. It really helps slow you down. I use it mainly when I’m crappie fishing and the wind gets up too bad. If you want to try something cheap you can get 1 or 2 five gallon buckets and drill holes thru the bottom and tie them off with about 10-15’ of rope. I like the sock because you can fold it up and put in a compartment.
That's great news! I'm wanting to use or for crappie fishing more than anything
I would recommend buying one size bigger than what is recommended for your boat.
We use them at Ky Lake in the spring drift fishing the flats for crappie. A trick that will keep it off the bottom in 5' of water is tie a 2 liter bottle a couple ft in front of the sock.
So would the 16-18 work better or the 18-20?
They not only slow you down, they also provide directional stability. The drag they produce keep what ever end of the boat you ties it onto facing into the wind. Tie to the bow or the stern, don't tie to a mid-ships cleat.
This sounds like a good investment to me
