each catch must be documented and registered as a trophy fish with Kentucky Fish and Wildlife
How does one go about registering a fish?

That's the way I read it, Chuck. Plus I've had a couple of PMs from people saying that they earned theirs within one year too.

    SLP,

Visit the KDF&W website at fw.ky.gov or you can get info on it from the Fishing & Boating magazine that is free at Wal-Mart.

Happy to see people taking an interest in the program, that's the whole reason for my writing the article (once I get around to doing it).

Thanks, I think this could be a real fun family project (I have a young son and daughter) to see if we can each get one. Maybe they can even beat Dad for the first one

Yeah, there are plenty that start at the 10" level such as bluegill, rock bass, etc. Crappie is 15" if I remember correctly. Go for it!

    FISH/MASTER ANGLER
    AWARD PROGRAM
Anglers who catch, by pole and
line, any one fish meeting the length
requirements below may qualify for the
    Trophy Fish/Master Angler Awards
    Program. Anglers who catch three
different species of trophy status are
eligible for the Master Angler Award.
There is no time limit in which the three
different species must be caught, but each
catch must be documented and registered
as a trophy fish with Kentucky Fish and

Angler Award may not be duplicated.
    Anglers qualifying for a Kentucky
Trophy Fish Award will receive a
    collectable Kentucky Trophy Fish lapel/
hat pin. An angler may only receive
one pin per year, but each Trophy Fish
caught counts toward the Master Angler
    Award.
    All applications for Trophy Fish/
Master Angler Award must be received
by Feb. 1 the following year to qualify
    for a lapel/hit pin.
    Anglers must register on-line at
fw.ky.gov to receive their lapel/hat pin
and Trophy Fish Certificate. A photo
of the catch must be submitted along
    with the Trophy Fish/Master Angler
    application.
    Complete details are available
by calling 1-800-858-1549 or on the

    by trotlines, gigging, snagging, tickling,
noodling, hand grabbing or bow fishing
are not eligible. Fish need to be weighed
on a scale certified for legal trade.

I got mine and working on my second. The first was for a largemouth, smallmouth, and striper. For the second, I have a walleye and hybrid. I had a trophy crappie, but I didn't submit. I'm hoping to complete the second with a Muskie this year.

I apologize if i came off abrupt.I guess i keep getting hung up on the "one pin per year"
thing.I guess you can enter more than one fish but only get one pin.I just got my first certificate this year. They sent me a e-permit.I havent got my pin yet.I caught a 21 1/2 in smallmouth at Dale Hollow over thanksgiving weekend.I cant wait to rub it in my brothers nose.

I didn't find your replies abrupt at all, I was just wondering if you had seen something I hadn't. It sounds like we may be talking about two separate programs. I am talking about the Master Angler program where you can claim three different species of fish over certain lengths to become a Master Angler. It sounds like you may be talking about the Trophy Fish program where, I believe, you are only eligible for one claim per species per year.
