I have a 35 HP Johnson on a 16' Monark with key start. I want to install new cables for both the drive and idle controls. As close as I can measure, both cables are 10' long. The question is, are both of these cables the same? The ends look identicle on both cables, but I cannot find any positive info telling me they are.
Does anyone have any input to answer this question?
Also, any hints as to installation? Are there any other parts I should get for this installation?
Thanks for any input!!
Called a shift throttle cable as does either or,meaning same.
When you take the other off set if about the same by eye,you wont be to awful far off, then floor gas check and see if its all the way forward, let off and see if goes back to stop or close. Then adjust as necessary after starting and warming it up,fast idle will kick in when cold,so wait a min.Run only in water or on ears.
Some older engines are a tad different on gas but you can still use the cable with a lil thought, reasoning is new versus old may be slight difference between them found that out using 94 shifter and cables on a 78 x flow but still can do it.
On shifter hook up same then check for forward locking and backward locking with an actual nuetral, adjust accordingly,by tightening or loosening the cable.
$25-30 dollars each on ebay delivered-Evinrude-Johnson 10ft shift throttle cable
