Pitino - Naismith Hall of Fame

Regardless of how Saturday's Hoopageddon game turns out, Ricky P. will get named to the Naismith Hall of Fame Monday. Only coach in NCAA history to take three different teams to the Final Four, 600+ wins, one title, five Final Fours.

Well deserved honor for pitino but I would rather see this done at the end of his career. Like elnut mentioned it doesnt make sense to put an active coach in there. Maybe give him a year after retirement??

I to have always liked to see this kind of thing after they have officially retired.

Love him or hate him, the man deserves it for sure. He is having fun again to. He was almost childlike after that game last weekend is was great to see and the kids seem to be having a blast. Maybe his new found light hearted approach has helped to turn them around??

He does deserve it but like all the rest including the absolute BEST, it should happen with a waiting period after retirement. Bill Parcells is a Hall of Fame Football coach and has been retired for 4 years now and a certain first ballot entry. If he coaches the Saints next year then the 5 year clock starts over again. There is an exception that could be made to the waiting period rule. If Pat Summit was not already a Hall of Fame Coach, then she would be deserving due to her illness of no waiting period. But if a coach is still active then no entry into the Hall if you ask me. Things happen. Look at Joe Paterno and what he knew but did not follow up on, yet put in the Hall of Fame, Trophies and awards named in his honor (that have been renamed) and such. Pitino is deserving but not until he retires like all the rest.

What if Marcus Camby and Derrick Rose issues were not found out until years had gone by? You would have Calipari with 3 schools in the Final Four, plus be the only coach in history to have 3 different schools as number 1 seeds and if he wins the title this year will be a Mario Chalmers 3 pointer from having 2 rings. Let's say Cal was voted in then a few years later Camby and Rose issues come out, what now? Take him out of the Hall of Fame even though he was cleared of all charges, but his teams accomplishments are erased from the books. There should be a waiting period
