I had some leftover minnows from Saturday, so I took them this evening to McNeely to see if I could catch anything. I fished from the bank with a bobber set at about 3 ft and casted it by the fish attractor buoy. I caught three crappie in about an hour. They were all about 9 to 10 inches but seemed very skinny to me- would that mean that there are a whole bunch in there? I never thought there would be many in there.
As soon as I caught one I was swarmed by kids wanting to hold it, play with the minnows, and asking a million questions. It's a shame that there are so many kids that have never been fishing before.
Anyhow, just thought I would share. Anyone else been out there lately?
A friend of mines dad has the bluegill/shellcrackers wired on hat lake. He fishes it a couple of times a week by boat. He complains about the lack of crappie there all the time. Seems to me he is always complaining about a lack of them, so I am guessing the population is low.
When my son was little, his baseball team had a picnic there. I was watching a guy fish from the dam and he caught a largemouth that might have pushed 8 pounds.
