    Saltwater reel

I am going to South Fl. the end of next month.
I need to clean my salt water reel. Hasn't been used in several years.
It's pretty locked up. Any Suggestions?

    Thanks.

That could be bad if you didn't rinse it with fresh water the last time you used it.What type reel are you talking about? And by the way welcome to the board. Chuck

    Re: Saltwater reel

Some may disagree but I would take the side plate off and WD the guts of the reel gently trying to free the main shaft that runs threw the entire body.More than likly the shaft is what has froze up....let it soak for a minute as to free it up. If you have multiple drag disks that have rusted it may be time to replace the reel. If you free it up use a very light oil or greese to re lube the reel. I'm no reel doctor but have recovered some reels from the bottom of the river and been able to save them....that said salt is a killer, good luck, Chuck

    Unhappy Re: Saltwater reel

Like I said salt is a killer! Time for a new reel. Make sure after you use the next one in salt water wash it very good with fresh water and then lube it well if your not using it again for a while.Sorry about your loss Chuck
