A quick fishing report for Miami Florida and Everglades National Park.
Tarpon fishing close to downtown Miami and South Beach has been excellent and
We are fishing afternoons early evenings and nights. the past three days have been difficult with high winds and torrential downpours but we still have managed to jump 22 Tarpon and bring 3 to the boat. The average Tarpon is about 90 pounds and have hooked into some around 150 pounds.
We are using medium spinning gear and live crabs and shrimp to get the bite. It is all in the tide and how you fish it, usually I start around the bridges on slack and work away as the tide gets stronger.
In everglades National park or "Flamingo" the flats are loaded with big Redfish and large Snook. There were schooled up Reds everywhere and large Snook laid-up in pot holes where there is some kind of current.
On Saturday we caught 3 Reds at 29 inches all on Skitter-walk topwater lures and I must say what a beautiful strike!
We got chased off the flats several times due to bad weather approaching. Hopefully the bad stuff is behind us and the next several weeks will be calm and sunny.
There is also Large 20 inch Trout in 4 to 6 feet of water out front. We are catching them on popping corks with Berkly Gulp shrimp.

Good Luck Capt. Jim Hale
