Smallmouth, and to be honest there isn't even a close second

If I'm looking for a few to eat, I'll go catch crappie

Tough question. I enjoy all types of fishing but I think I enjoy catching big cats out of the Ohio river more than most other species.

The power of the river current adds to the excitement of reeling any species in.

    Largemouth hands down in freshwater.
Saltwater no favorites. It's all good.

Ditto. The distant second would be striper. It might be higher if I was better at actually getting them to bite.

    Re: Favorite Fish to catch?

I don't get to fish for them anymore, but probably my top favorite would be Pike, with large mouth being a very close second. I love small mouth as well, when given the opportunity.

Since I am now trying to learn how to fish man made reservoirs (much different than the natural lakes I used to fish years ago) my answer current answer would be any fish that will bite.

    Re: Favorite Fish to catch?

I would have to go with river/creek smallmouth. They fight just as hard out if the water as they do in the water. They're like largemouth on crack!
