    making own leaders

I am wanting to make me some new leaders, so was wondering what is the best lines to use and how long? I mainly fish for smallies and bluegills. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have done completely away with using tapered leaders, unless I am trying to present dry flies...in all other circumstances (like the one you are mentioning) I use straight flurocarbon line for my leader. The strength of the leader depends on what I am fishing for...with bluegills, maybe a 6-8 lb fluro leader, then apply my light tippet. With smallies, 8-10lb fluro leader...etc. You can just buy a spool of fluro leader at any fishing store, and it should last you a long time. I use around 6-8 ft depending on what I'm doing. Good luck!
