Folks ,
I've been thinking about trying to set up a tournament and I wanted to get some feedback and see if the idea sounds interesting. Here are a few of the rules:
BARE BONES TOURNAMENT
1) only one rod and reel per angler
2) each anglers reel will be spooled with 100 YARDS OF 2 LB TESTupon checking in for the tournament.
3) each angler can bring and possess only two traditional type baits : this could be a crankbait and a jig; a worm and a spinnerbait, etc. if both selections are plastic -- two hooks and sinkers will be permitted. Each anglers 2 baits that they have chosen will be all that is allowed in the boat! Each boat will be searched prior to the start of the tournament.
4) no nets on board
5) no Alabama rigs etc. (like up could use it with 2 lb test anyway).
6) 2 anglers per boat - THIS IS A TEAM TOURNAMENT
7) FIVE FISH PER BOAT LIMIT
8) any species of fish can be taken (certain tournaments may be species specific)
9) shotgun start, 8 hours in duration, payout goes to the boat with the most weight (winner takes all)
10) fish finders are permitted
Tell me what you think?
2# you could not throw most baits with out it snapping the line.
I agree, I thought that would make it extremely challenging (along with the fact of only having two baits) - do you think it's a little too extreme? Maybe up it to 4lb test, or even just restrict it to two baits? Most of all does it sound interesting ??
I would make the line rule 12# max mono or fluro only. And I would only go 6hrs. Other than that it sounds like it would be a fun tourney. where would you have it at?
on second thought, 6 or 8# would be more challanging
I agree, the 2# line might be a bit extreme, but what a challenge that would be! I think your suggestion of using the 6# may be a good idea. Or maybe even 4#? I just want it to be as challenging as possible. You asked where it would be held - I haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward either Laurel river lake, Herrington lake, or the oversized pond (Guist creek lake) which actually is a nice lake for largemouth!!
By the way I appreciate your input! Thanks !
Make it 10.
I've give it some thought and I have to agree with you. With only one rod and reel and two baits, a person would need to at least have half of a fighting chance. 10# was a good suggestion.
ZX thanks for your input.
Id keep it at 4 lb test.
Thanks for the input folks. I have decided to go with 4 lb test to increase the level of difficulty (if only being allowed to have one rod and reel and 2 baits isn't tough enough). At any rate I appreciate everyone's input. I haven't decided yet, but I may see if I can put something together for this spring and run a small series (maybe 5 tourneys) just to see how it goes. Again thank you for the input
