    Forum Spam

We installed some new spam software on the forum. It seems to be working well. Since sunday it has prevented about 600 spammers from registering. About 90 percent of these are automated bots that have the ability to register. The bots can also answer some pretty tricky registration questions as well as read and fill out those jumbled numbers and letters you have seen before when you have registered at sites.

Thanks to everyone that has sent an alert when they have run across spam. This won't put an end to spam on the forum but it looks like it will cut it down and make the management of spammers much easier.

For any techies out theres here's an article regarding how social networks (forums are included in that) are being attacked with spammers and paid for posters who try to influence users for a very small fee. Im mainly putting it here so I can find it.

To give you an idea why I am reading such stuff, last week the forum received registrations from close to 1000 spammers. That's 50,000 per year.
