Some information in regards to Roseberry Creek:

The Scottsboro City Council voted to pay $50,000 toward the spraying of Roseberry Ck. 4 out of 5 members voted in favor of the payment! Matthew Hodges, Keith Smith, Gary Spears & Thermon Bell all voted in favor of this! While Carol McCrary did not vote to fund it, and she won the hearts of the LGRA for using common sense and not agreeing with the good old boys. In my opinion it is time we take this issue to the next election; it is time each of these members of the City Counsil get voted out and we elect a leadership that is willing to work toward benefiting all those that use Roseberry Creek, and that includes the fisherman. We need to elect leadership that will not misappropriate funds for political gain, and be willing to listen to all parties and do what is right for all!

A solution was proposed at the meeting that a committee be formed to map a solution, where the unusable areas of the creek for boaters be spared from spraying, like high spots, stumpy areas, areas that are dangerous to run boats etc. The Counsil’s mind was made up before the meeting and they never even considered a solution to benefit both. Very sad leadership!

To the people of Scottsboro, this is a slap in the face they have allocated money that benefits 2% of the population of the town when schools are hurting every day for money to properly educate our children. Our hospital is old, understaffed and behind in technology anything serious has to be transported to other hospitals; ask our hospital leadership if they could use money and see what their answer is. This is nothing but misuse of our tax payer’s money. Ask the unemployed in Scottsboro whether they would appreciate jobs being formed by the Counsil instead of spraying a creek.

This good Ol' Boy network has got to end; wasting tax payer money is absurd! Not working with the fisherman to create some common ground is also absurd, the fishing industry brings in nearly 70% of all the tax dollars in the Scottsboro area, through hotels, tackle stores, restaurants and more! It's time to take this issue to the next election!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/12/12

This past week on the water, was met with changing temperatures, rain and north winds; what that meant for fishing was some great days and some typical days. When the rain set in we had some of the best days I have seen in many years, when the sun and high pressure was upon us, it was more of a struggle yet we caught fish all week long! The good was better than it gets, the typical was good but not terrific.
All said we caught fish all week and had some great days and I watched some customer’s fish hard with average results and others in awe of the great results. They say when you “wow” a customer you have accomplished your goal and we certainly “wowed” a few!

We fished early most of the week with top-water baits and Punisher Spinner Baits off the ledges, and went to slower presentations like worms and Punisher “Hail Mary” rigged with a number two hook and floating creature baits. All said a great week, there is more to come and plenty of great days ahead!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 5/5/12

This past week was some of the best back to back fishing days we have had this year. I can’t say it was covered up with big fish although we did catch a few good ones. The numbers however were very good; this being the time of year I generally gets 4 and 6 hour days, our numbers were very good for short days.
The bite we were after early was top water and that was very strong just about every morning and continued sometimes into mid morning. The grass on the lake is just under the surface in a lot of areas, and when that occurs we went to working Assassinator buzz baits, or a pop-r over the grass and that was a ton of fun! After the top water moved on for the day generally went to 2 presentations either a soft plastic bite or a jig bite, we used Tight-Line jigs off the grass and Punisher “Hail Mary’s” rigged with a hook and floating plastic creature bait. Both caught fish and brought us plenty of bites.
The grass is coming up the bass have spread the lake and fishing is good, it’s the time of year to take a young person fishing. Come fish with me I have guides and days available to fish with you!

The week started out with 30 mph southwest winds and made for some tough fishing, as the winds calmed the fishing picked up, as we could once again get to them and hold a boat in place. The first three days of this week you would have thought we were in early March as the winds were just howling down the lake one day from the northeast and then from the southwest and you just couldn’t stand and fish with the waves coming at you.
The Punisher Spinner Bait bite in their ghost color ¾ oz was it today and is still on and the shad spawn still has some legs as we can see the small bait chasing your spinner baits thru- out the early light part of the day! When the sun got up we shifted to soft plastics rigged on Punishers new “Hail Mary” it was deadly in the sun as we caught many good fish, for several hours past the high sun light part of the day.
We also used small crank baits around the grass edges and found bites all week long. It was a good alternative as you could fish it slowly and let it rise up and it was catching fish. The fishing is good, if you can stand on your boat in the open areas of the lake. Come fish with me I have guides and days available to fish with you!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 4/21/12

This past week might go down as the best week on the lake this year, the shad spawn is on and the bass are chasing and feeding and there are plenty of big bites. Last year for some reason the way the weather set up the spring we never really saw this bite, but it’s here now and as good as I have seen it for many years!

For me, there is no better fun than pulling a big Punisher Spinner Bait ¾ to 1 oz. in size and having a big bass just rip it from your hands; that my friends is exactly what we are experiencing. The thing about it is right now it’s easy, that’s right easy regardless of skill set you can go roll big spinner baits and with a push button rod if that’s your choice and catch a big fish! It just doesn’t get any better than this!

My clients are having record catches all week regardless of skill set and we have had a blast on the water! Come fish with me I have guides and days available to fish with

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 4/15/12

This past week was one of the best weeks on the lake this year, we had one tough day being Friday but other than that it was a great week. The shad spawn is strong the bass are hitting Punisher Spinner Baits and just knocking slack in your line. The first hour or two of each day the bass are hitting about every 3rd cast on the spinner bait bite and we are catching 15 to 20 fish with in the first couple of hours. Just some great fun, a time of year that I look forward to and have looked forward to for many years!
Once we got past the shad spawn bite we moved to the grass working soft plastics, and catching fish on a kind of here and there type pattern, nothing consistent, scattered bites and by the end of the day we would add another 25 opportunities to put fish in the boat. If you caught them it was great and added to your daily catch of you missed them, then the day got long in-between bites!
Fishing is good, the day is fun and there is plenty more to come, if you’re looking for a trip call me no one will treat you better or work harder to see you meet your day expectation. Come fish with me I have guides and days available to fish with you!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 4/7/12

Fishing appears to have taken a bite of an up-tick from last week, there are more bites and bigger fish are starting to move to the ledges and we are seeing more post spawn aggressive fish. That’s the good news; the bad news is we appear to be heading into an early summer pattern where the average fisherman will struggle unless they understand how to fish the deeper ledges and humps.
This past week one of the exciting patterns was top water, it’s like we are in May already and early or late in the day you can get to the grass and get top water bites over the grass with a variety of top water baits! I believe we will see a good solid top water pattern for the rest of the summer and fishing will be fun!
School is close to ending the summer time early and late pattern is approaching, and fishing will continue to be good. Come fish with me

Current Fishing Conditions
The weather is so messed up that I thought I would spend a little time trying to explain the current fishing conditions. First of all the water has warmed to the mid to high 70’s in early April that alone has the fishing conditions and the patterns we have been accustomed too this time of year all changed!
Normally we would be in the beginning of the spawn by this time of year but instead many of the bass have spawned almost two to three weeks ago; yet there are many that have not spawned as their biological clock is all messed up! That being said; the bass are at all stages of fishing, with what is normal being changed for all of us. We have post spawn fishing, we have pre spawn fishing, we have suspending fish and by the way we have staging fish waiting to spawn!
The key is what to do on a daily basis to catch fish; well what I am doing is trying to fish all the different patterns every day until I find one that is producing enough bites to make a good day of it. When I do I continue trying to target those fish and work presentations that would work while fishing that pattern! Let me give you an example; let’s say that when I first start out that day I find catching fish that the bass are biting that appear to be in a hot summer pattern!
So my day is probably spent fishing top water early, working out toward the ledges mid to late morning and then working drops of 12 to 30 ft. as the sun moves high to the mid day. The key is I found fish in a summer time pattern so the rest of the day I fished as if it was a hot summer day.

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/31/12

It seemed like we had fished 2 different lakes this past week, at the beginning we had high pressure, north winds, bright sun and the fish were slow and hard to find. Then comes Thursday afternoon the weather is overcast the wind is out of the south and the bass are chasing and schooling and just about every presentation you try you catch fish! In fact we had an afternoon where we had 7 fish over 6lbs. a sure 30lb best 5 stringer and fishing is just great again; go figure.
Guntersville can flatter you or it can turn your day into a day of pain and agony, thank God the end of the week was great as I was ready to throw in the towel This past week I had a variety of customers from all over the eastern US and met some really great folks! We fished Tight-Line jigs in their new oil slick color, soft plastics and we even pulled some square bill crank baits.
Fishing has had its ups and downs but there is now question when Guntersville is on, one hook set can be the fish you have dreamed about all your life. Come fish with me I have days available to fish with you!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/24/12

This past week on Guntersville was great for numbers; we caught many fish every day and had some big smiles from customers. As is pretty typical when the numbers are up the size suffers a little as we really didn’t have any big fish this week, but we caught plenty of them!
The bass have migrated to the shallows and a big wave of them is spawning, and I expect this will continue for several weeks. You have a choice this time of year fish the shallows for bites and take what you can get for size or try to find the bigger fish and this can be tough until we start seeing a post spawn pattern.
Most are bites have been on soft plastics with the early bite but when it’s been windy we caught them on Punisher Spinner Baits and Pro Assassinator clacker’s spinner bait. Fishing is good; we are having plenty of fun, you’re active all day long and wore out by the end of the day!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/17/12

The water temperature says the bass should just be killing it out there but reality is that the fishing is tougher than most anticipated. The bass have been staging off the drops at the mouths of creeks and outside the humps and points and they have not been very active. The good news is that Friday and Saturday showed signs of improvement, with the buck bass moving up to the beds and along with some of the females.
Every day from here forward should show great signs of improvement and we should be back to some better catches. This past week our best bites came off soft plastic baits like El Grande tubes and grubs and Mister Twister worms, with Tight Line jigs new Oil slick color in a ½ oz. jig catching the bigger fish. Numbers got better toward the later part of the week but the early part was extremely tough. Look for the top water bite to improve shortly as the bass are building beds and get aggravated easily and strike on top as they get ready

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/10/12

I guess if the wind didn’t blow you off the lake it wouldn’t be March in North Alabama, at least it seems that way. We have yet to have a day on the water this month that the wind didn’t make it extremely uncomfortable on the water and tough to stay on the main lake and fish! The fish are biting but the ability to stay on them has been really tough and the bigger fish appeared to be relating to the main lake.

I believe we have two distinct patterns this past week, the creeks have warmed enough to push the bass up to spawn, but this is limited in numbers and appears to be mostly fish under four pounds. The bigger fish are still relating to the main lake and the deeper water is still in the low to mid 50’s and the bass have not even moved to the flats on the main lake.

The bigger fish are still in 10 plus ft of water and stages up and back in transition from the flats back to the deeper water. We have caught fish on A-rigs, Tight-Line jigs and worms on the main lake when you could stay on it and fish! Fishing is good; conditions have been tough but that Guntersville!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 3/3/12

For the second week in a row I have struggled on Guntersville, the fish are scattered and the big fish are in transition and that makes for some tough fishing; at least it did for me! I believe that the warm water is so early that it has their biological clock are all messed up, the water temperature says spawn but the internal clock is far from ready.

There are some fish up really shallow but not in numbers and certainly not in groups or bunches. The only thing we could do was fish hard and makes tons of casts in many areas with a lot of different baits and hope for the best. I believe that the bass just need a few weeks and both their clock and the water temperature should turn them on!

We fished many different bait’s this past week, nothing really caught on fire as we fished crank baits, A-rigs, rattle baits and Tight Line jigs. We caught some fish on all of them but size was an issue and the numbers were far from what we are accustomed too.

It should get better quickly; come fish with me I have days available to fish with you.

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/25/12

Fishing had its ups and downs this past week as we had several days with winds in the 30 mph just making it extremely tough to move around the lake and stay on a bite when you found it. We did catch some fair numbers each day, but catching a big fish proved to be a problem. I spent most of the week up river where you had a chance to hide from the North West wind on the north side bank.

Most our fish were caught on traps and jerk baits, with some fish on Tight Line jigs and worms. The real pre spawn chasing just hasn’t really set in yet, I think the water temperature is going up and down and the fish aren’t really ready to chase yet. Fishing is good not really great I think we are still a few weeks away from the best of the pre spawn, so the best is yet to come.

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/18/12

As we move closer to March the bass fishing on Lake Guntersville continues to be strong, the weather however this past week made for a tough early start to the week. The water temperature at the beginning of the week dropped about 7 degrees from the extreme cold we experienced; that caused some problems early in the week as the fish were pretty lethargic from the cold spell.

As the week moved on the fishing picked up again and we were back to some strong catches and with good size and good numbers. The good news about the week is many of the bass were still in the in-between stage of moving or not. This allowed us to catch fish on jerk baits, Tight-Line jigs, worms and fast moving baits like traps and swim baits!
Fishing is good and will only get better, the pre-spawn fishing is here and there is plenty of action to be had!

Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/11/12

The front end of this past week the fishing was great; the end of the week turned cold, windy and nasty and not really fit for fishing. As we started the second week of February it couldn’t have been any better fishing, the bass were moving up to the shallows to start the pre spawn fishing, hitting all different baits. By The end of the week just holding yourself on a spot was nearly impossible with 30 plus winds and then getting a bite was just not to be!

As we started the week we caught fish on Tight-Line jigs black and blue ½ oz., Punisher Spinner baits ¾ quarter oz. watermelon color, rattle baits and a-rigs. It was a matter of what depth you wanted to fish, but one thing for sure if you fished there was a way to catch fish. By the end of the week color, bait or depth really didn’t matter as fishing became nearly impossible.

The good news is that this time of year the bass biological clock is kicking in, the weather patterns move quickly and we should be back to good fishing in a few short days.
