    Fishing below McAlpine

I am going to walk down the island below the dam and try to fish the hydros. I have never done this and was wondering if anyone had any fishing advice or tips. I usually fish the falls but not in the area of the hydro. If anyone has an input please inform me. I will be going in a few hours around 5am unless anyone tells me otherwise. Just looking to fish some current instead of the still water at the falls.

It was a terrible spot. It was really shallow and the fish were slow. One decent 3lb striper and small catfish less than a pound. Moved back toward the dam and caught a few more cats that were in the 2-3lb range. The walk was long and slippery. We spent an hour walking from the hydro back to the car. I would not recommend this spot for bank fishing.

Troy I'm kinda not following you? Did you walk from the upper dam to the lower dam? or did you get off at the 22nd street exit and park by the hydros and walk down? And by the way I finally got to go up and throw the metal stringer for your lost pole at the area you told me with no luck. I caught a very wide variety of sinkers tho.Sorry that fish must still be packin it. Chuck

Yes I walked from the upper dam down to the hydro. The sand beach goes pretty far into the water even as low as it is. I could walk a good ways out and still see the sand bottom until I got too close to the flow for my comfort level.
And I appreciate you looking for my pole. I knew it was a long shot but I really appreciate you taking the time to look for me. Glad you found some stuff so it wasn't a total waste of time.

No problem, still might find it eventually. As for where you were fishing, that is the lower dam. The hydro's which you couldn't see are actually around the corner and when they are running water at the lower there is no way to walk to them. I believe you would have better luck driving over and parking at the hydro plant.exit22 off 64.Google for directions, its been awhile since I drove over there, but you will go over the new loch bridge and park up by LG&E. I did real well behind #1, there's a few other places I'd be glad to share just PM me. I primarily fish for hybrid and sauger over there but there is a couple holes that hold catfish i can turn you on to. Hope this helps. Chuck

I have been to that spot off exit 22. The anglers path I believe it was called. Didn't do so hot there but I hear people talk about it quite a bit. May need to try back over there again. And are these holes accessible from the bank?
