    Cool Crappie!!!

Crappie!!! Are yall, pumped as i am! lol.....its sleeting like crazy right now, and all i can do is think of the cool crisp spring morning. Awww yes, gobblers hammering thunderous gobble from their high roost, and the sun peeking in on a new crappie day. Cant wait to get out there, make that first magical cast of the morning, a slow fall of the jig next to a cedar then that mistakable "tick" fish on!!! Last year was an epic year on cedar, during the spawn, caught some really awesome fish! Saw, so many people doing alot of the same too, kinda sad to see that class year of fish go. I mean caught some monster females, heavy fish, just awesome!

This year is looking up! Went out last Tue, hooked the biggest crappie of my life! She, was up in the shallows, so there creeping on a come up, not long now, will be none stop action, and no more of the cold icy weather.

Hope yall have an awesome season! P.S If any anyone wants to swap tips, tricks, or general knowledge, please feel free.

Why will it ruin it ???

This is a trophy status largemouth lake so the trout will be great for them & I'd assume the catfish there will eat them too. I just don't understand how it could possibly be a problem since trout are supposedly very high in protien. Any ideas ??? Will there be any ill effects because of trout stockings ???

I seriously doubt it ... seeing as how the Trout aren't likely to survive through the Summer, anyway. I'd venture to guess that more of the Trout will die from the water temps, than the numbers caught by anglers or eaten by the Bass.

Also ... I haven't seen any indication of any stocking of Trout taking place at Cedar Creek, this year. They put 12,000 in Oct 2012 and only expected them to live until June 2013 ... and I don't see Cedar Creek listed on any of the latest trout stocking lists. So, maybe it didn't pan out for them, like they expected it to .... and they decided to put those Trout into other FINS lakes, rather than in Cedar Creek. I don't know. If I want to fish for Trout, I need not go all the way to Cedar Creek ... I can just drive down the road to Jacobson Park Lake and fish for them.

    bad idea

The trout they stocked into scott county park destroyed the fishing in there befor it was made a fins lake there was monster crappie bass catfish and some of the biggest bluegills ive seen in the state of ky and once they slapped trout in there ur spawning fish get all the off spring eating and also eats all the food for the other fish and i think the fins program is a good idea but trout in large number in such small lakes is a very bad idea it ruins the fish that are actually there

Crappiehunterchris, I'm not trying to start an argument however being a resident of Scott county since 75, access to those lakes was prohibited. Of course we know there was a privileged few that fished them with impunity. With that said, they were good ponds to fish. Alot of nice fish came out of there for a while. Those lakes get enormous pressure. I'm sure that some fishing there care not for limits. With what Crappiepappy stated about temps and surviving the summer is what the KDFW is booking on from what I have read in the past. They put the trout in those ponds so that the public will have another specie to fish for that most don't normally get to fish for or to eat. The lakes at the Game Farm in Frankfort gets the same pressure if not more and they do not have any problems. If you're looking for trophy fish, go to the reservoirs, rivers and streams that can support these fish. I really don't think your going to catch a trophy out of a Fins lake. Yes, I know that there is a fish or two that are in that classification in those lakes but they are few and far between. And my next statement is my opinion only. Those lakes of course is open to all. Usually from what I have observed it is senior citizens, parents with kids that want to introduce them to fishing in a safe and easy access environment, disabled, and somebody that doesn't have the ability to go to lakes and streams or have a boat etc. I think it is an absolutely marvelous project that KDFW and local communities share! The ideas of the Fins lakes is to promote fishing. Georgetown/Scott county has available to it numerous fishing areas open to the public. The parks that have Elkhorn creek passing thru at Great Crossings, Oser Landing, Cardome and below Robinson dam. There is also Eagle creek in northern Scott co around Sadieville. Most of the places you can launch a boat. I fish Elkhorn on a regular bases with a boat and there are plenty of nice sized fish and plenty of them. I can go on but I reckon I'm starting ramble. You seem like a passionate fisherman Chris. Teach and encourage others to enjoy the sport when you can.

I'm headed to Cumberland for a small tourney (Crappie) Sunday ... and I've only fished one other time, this year, a couple of weeks ago at KY Lake (Crappie tourney) ... so I'm not real sure what the Crappie are doing. This is the first time in decades that I've actually fished in March.
