Anybody had any luck catfishing on taylorsville lately?
I was wondering the same thing. I like to fish for the blues on Friday nights while my dad and brother fish the bass tourney. any update would be appreciated. I caught a few last year on main lake out from dam on cut shad.![]()
I was out weekend before last, targeted flats next to channel drops between beech creek and the marina trolling right off the bottom with cut bait on Santee rigs in 30-40 feet of water. Picked up only a few after trolling and drifting all morning into the early afternoon, not much size to them, 4 pounds was about the biggest I'd say. Went to try and fish a good shallow spot I know of next to a big hole and anchored up for a while but after the fourth or fifth pontoon boat pulled in right on top of me and kids started jumping off I packed it in and headed to the house.
Haven't had a chance to get back out since, my best guess right now would be that the big cats are back on the flats near the channel during the day, or will be with the rain coming in especially if there's good current, and up in the creeks at night. Really wanted to get back out last week with all the rain and the lake up and drawing down but had company to deal with.
Caught a 38lb blue in about 21ft of water last night, cut shad set 5ft deep on a standard slip bobber about 20ft off a steep bank. Every bit of action I got was between 3-10ft, as they stay above the 12ft deep thermocline this time of year. The bigguns are out there in Taylorsville, you just gotta find 'em!
Take some jugs out there and sit and wait! I'll go out there throw a couple jugs out (10 or so) and then throw out a line or two as well. Of course I'm only fishin for smaller cats for a fish fry or two every year. Only take about 5 cats usually. We set our jugs from 3ft to 6ft and have sucess back in coves. Good luck! This time of year I'm out there bass fishin, which seems like tryin to find a needle in a haystack! I've always had the best luck with cats out there, but of course I'm not a serious cat fisherman. Have fun!
Most recent luck I've had was pitching noodles and catching fish off cut bait around 6-8 ft deep. nice 3-5lb cats. Managed one 24 lb blue and turned it loose to be caught another day.I've had better luck from 6 p.m to midnight. While waiting on the noodles I'll look for jumps or look for baitfish and throw kastmasters at em and try catching my limit on the hybrids as well. 2 spots I've had most luck at recently was horseshoe bend and near the dam.
