I have two Shimano Stradic 3000FI's (silver and gold color ones) that are now 2 generations old and love them. I run 10 and 15lb powerpro on them with fluorocarbon leaders if needed. The new Stradic FK look awesome.

Stradic Ci4 is just about $20 more than your budget; but they are awesome reels. I've used my Stradic Ci4 2500s is both fresh and saltwater. If you don't do the Ci4, stick with the regular Stradic.

    spinning reels for braid

i use bass pro shops spinning reels, for the larger sized spools. i bought them for using with monofilament line. have switched to braid and i really like it. was using some spider wire which is a 4 strand braid ,tried some seaguar 8 strand and i really like it better. use 20 # test..007 diameter.casts better than mono with no coiling of the line. with braided line , i think any reel with a good drag system would be ok. braid is supposed to be hard on line guides , but i havent noticed it on my rods yet.

I'm using PowerPro 10/2 braid on my 7' Bionic Blade / Shimano Spirex 2000 outfit ... no problems.

And to Adriancretired's point ... ceramic insert guides handle braid just fine, and the "buzzzz" noise is not as pronounced as on metallic guides. And rodbuilders will tell you that reputable guides/tips will not groove from using braid, though there is a slight chance that dirt/particulates can get into the braid and act as an abrasive. The old "chromed metal" guides of the past were the culprit when braids first came out, but so was the "kevlar" fibers the braid was made from. Today's better braids (Spectra/Dyneema/polyethylene) are not as abrasive as the previous braids.

I really like Daiwa's Ballistic and/or Procyon EX (the mag sealed version). I have both and after using them all last year am unloading the rest of my reels. They are not the lightest out there, but the drag, smoothness, and ability to at least keep most contaminants out of the insides are worth the extra weight for me.

They've handled braid and flouro as good as or better than I'd hoped.

Note: they run big. the 2000 series is more like a 25 on other brands.
