Is Cumberland a lake that the water clears quickly?

Just curious, a friend of mine fished at cumberland today. Water was heavily stained and 53° around the dam. He caught 4 on crankbaits. I was considering a trip Saturday, but after seeing his pictures of the water clarity I'm second guessing that decision. Based on past experiences does anyone have a guess as to whether or not it'll clear any by then? I'd say I'll go anyhow, but just curious what to expect. I'll post results after I get home. Thanks in advance!

Out of curiosity I would like to see the pictures of the heavily stained water around the dam. Is there any way you can post the pictures or send them to me in a PM or text.

The reason I would like to see them is because I fished Cumberland Friday and Saturday last week and most of the water I saw in the area of the dam had a light or very light stain. Saturday night/early Sunday morning the area got some rain. I don't think it was enough to change the color around the dam. The main lake on Cumberland takes a lot of rain to get heavily stained. Please do not think I am saying it did not happen...I just want to see the pictures to know if I need to make a game plan change if I go back this Friday...can you please post or send me the pictures.

clear/stained/lightly stained/heavily stained/muddy whatever it is get out and go. Its mid March and that is always a good time to be on the water.

    Zara, sent you PM.

I had friends fish Fri & Sat near dam & also said visibility was fine. They said Lake area hadn't got the rain we received here in CKY in the last week. So stain would be from SUN/MON rain. Generally C Land is slow to stain and clears fairly quickly. Especially on main lake near dam.

    Cool

Ive fished cumberland every day and im going to go out on a limb here without seeing the pics you are referring to. The coloration you are seeing is not from turbidity from murky run off, its actually an algae bloom that is making the water look anything from slightly tannic to blood red to creamy colored. I saw all three colors today within a 1000yd stretch in the same creek. Ive fished the main lake from close to the dam to beaver , otter, greasy, caney and wolfe creeks and I havent seen any water that was stained due to muddy/murky in flows. But thats just the view from my boat so take it for what its worth

    Water color

I'll second what stripernut said. That is exactly what I saw. Fishing creek was dark, almost black but not murky - more tannic-like similar to Lake Okeechobee in Florida. I saw it sporadically in other creeks but it seemed to be less prevalent in creeks toward the dam. Caney was close to normal. Overall the water quality is very good for fishing. Even caught quite a few in the "black" water on jerkbaits which usually don't work in murky water. Fish seem to see fine.

    Fishing Creek

I was in upper fishing creek friday& the water looked like coffee at the ramp when we started. Went up to horse shoe bend & water had a good stain, but far from muddy. Went to the rear shelter house area pulaski county park & the water was awful looking. As we went back to load up the fishing creek ramp was clear & had looked like coffee that morning. Caught fish all day except at the stop by pulaski county park on rattletraps, jigs & spinnerbaits. Fish did bite better in the horse shoe bend area though.
