    Kentucky Lake Gills and Shellcracker

I'm heading down to the blood river area the end of this week. Anyone know if the gills or shellcrackers are starting to nest? should I head further south? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, they have started in the Blood River area, but the cool weather slowed them down a little.

I've been chasing them for a few weeks now with somewhat limited success. I actually caught a few hogs around the full moon back in April. We had that cold snap last week and it really set things back because they were fixing to move onto their nests at that point.

I think it will really fire up starting today and be really good for the next two weeks.

Well, we ended up fishing in the Paris Landing area. Friday was awesome. We ended up cleaning 93 gills with about 40 shellcrackers. Good thing too because a cold front came in and Sat was slow with about a dozen nice crappie and no shellcrackers. Sunday was a bust.

Thanks for the advise and info guys. I ended up having a pretty good trip!

I'm headed down to my place at Barkley tomorrow night. I figure with the May full moon, shellcracker and big gills should really be doing their thing.

I caught a few nice crackers in late April but the weather seemed to really turn the bite completely off. I'm just hoping they go on beds and spawn or we could lose an entire class because of bad weather.
