mounting transducer

I want to mount it to the trolling motor. It is Motor Guide Wireless w55 which has a fin on the bottom of the motor housing. I realize the fin is probably there for stability, but if I cut it off, will that cause a problem with the motor over heating as it also could be a cooling tool?

I'm sure there are folks on here that are far more qualified to answer and with greater technicality, but here's my two cents. As for cooling, based on my experience with having trolling motors apart for repair, the skeg will be negligible at best in the cooling of the motor. As for motors getting hot, I recently heard a couple of cats fighting outside a few nights ago and went out to find cat hair all over my deck and my MotorGuide trolling motor running on high. It had ran for about 8 or 9 hours before I discovered it and determined the cats had managed to flip the switch from momentary to constant. The motor was very hot, but has functioned fine since then. I believe the only difference you will see from cutting the skeg off is steering performance, but I'm not sure how much.

Why not use the mounting bracket that attaches to the shaft and locates the transducer to the side of the motor?

If you do cut it off, you might want to grab about a half dozen replacement props. You'll be needing them.

second time out i broke the wire with this loose cable strapping to the shaft. i dont see anyway to thread it to lay close and see you have a lot of slack to catch a stump as well. Is there an answer?
I just bought a new Garmin SVDV and want to use it a few times!

That might work. The transducer is much bigger than the one in the picture.

Don't all trolling motors have fins on the bottom? Some are way up front like the minn kota pictured, others are farther back by the blade.

Get the trolling motor transducer for your sonar and it should come with the proper sized hose clamp for putting it on the motor.

I took a Dremel tool and made enough room to strap the transducer to the trolling motor. I placed one zip tie close to the motor and another above the clamp that adjusts the depth of the motor. I might loosely place a zip on that clamp to keep the cable close to the shaft, but not too tight.

The SVDV transducer is too big and how do you handle the cable?
