A buddy has a farm pond most of the fish have the small worms in the meat. Anyone know of a cure???????
Cook it a little longer. lol
Funny but would like to treat the pond
I've been told the white "worms" in the flesh of fish are the larva stage of a some sort of snail or slug in the pond. I have been told that redear or shellcrackers in a pond will help because they eat the snails where bluegills do not. It makes sense to me, but I don't really know. You local fisheries biologist can probably tell you.
I would not eat the fish if I were you. I once did and now have a tapeworm that forces me to eat all the time.
I have to go to Golden Corral every day and eat until it hurts. I told my doctor I can't eat until I bust everyday but he told me "No Pain, No Gain". So I force down a whole plate of blueberry pie just when you think you can't eat no more.
Shrimp nite is just horrible, eat about 6 full plates full.
I got to put on about 50 more pounds before next winter or I might not make it.
Chigger you are a total gas. We need more guys like you in here to liven this place up more. LOL
That was funny as hell! I was in a bad mood until I read your post. LOL. **** UCLA really sucked tonight.

If you cook the fish at 375 deg F oil temp and get the inside of the fish up to 160 deg F you won't have to worry about those worms. They just cook up fine and add more protein to the meal.
You can fillet the fish and try to remove the worms if you like. But thoroughly cooking the fish will kill the worms.

Moose,
Why sad about UCLA? They already won 11 titles, we are 6 behind them. After they fired the General, we will be 6 behind for a long time. I was glad Florida won, they played like they wanted it. Nobody on UCLA wanted to get physical, so they got beat bad. West Coast teams don't like to play physical. LSU was too physical and the refs called it closer. Last night they didn't. If LSU could get a couple 3 point shooters, they will be real good.
If North Carolina didn't have 4 underclassmen go to the NBA after winning it last year, they would have killed everyone. Thank You NBA draft.
Anyway, this tapeworm is a problem let me tell ya. I went to the doctor to get it worked on, he was a colon doctor who used to be a veterinarian. He got better so they let him start workin on people. He tried to worm me to get rid of it, by hidin the pill in a piece of cheese. I tasted it in there and was able to spit it out.
I tell ya, Golden Corral on shrimp nite, it ain't bad, it ain't bad.
Anyway I want to apologize to you Moose, because I accidentally killed a moose when I was out in the Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. Me and a buddy was on a moped goin trout fishin and came around a corner and hit head on into a trophy bull moose. Dropped that big boy like a bad habit. The Wyoming DNR wouldn't let us keep the meat because we was from outta state.
The moped was in the shop for a while because we didn't have money to fix it, so we stayed in Wyoming and got jobs as cow pokes till we got enough money to fix the moped. I got saddle sore real bad, and to be honest I still walk a little funny from that cow poke job. Do cow pokes qualify for workmans comp money? I tried that horse whisperer thing, but them horses wasn't havin none of it. None.

Snails are very sensitive to the heavy metal COPPER. My stepdaughter put a penny in her aquarium years ago and it all the snails died in a few days. I later talked to the pet store people that sold us the fish and they told me to never put any copper in the aquarium if I had snails in the water.
You friend may be able to treat that farm pond with some coppersulfate. I use to do this at a lake I worked at every spring. We put the copper sulfate in a burlap bag and dragged it behind the boat all over the lake. The lake would turn green for a few days and any one that swam in the lake got out with Green hair. But it washed out with a good shower.
That may kill any snails that are in the pond. If these worms have part of their life cycle involved with those snails it may help irradicate the worms too. Worms can't survive or reproduce properly if their host (snails) are't around in the pond anymore.
I would encourage you to get a scientist (Biologist or Ecologist) that can identify the genus and specie of those worms. Once you know more about what they are you may be able to get better advice on how to get rid of them.
Oh BTW. The copper sulfate will kill the aquatic plants in the lake also and keep the algae from growing too.

Dang, I thought you was going to tell chigger to swallow a penny. Now he's got me to thinking maybe I got one of them worms too cause I just cannot go past one of those Golden Corrals.
Did you know shrimp nite moved to Monday? It did, from Friday.
Friday is now fish fry night, but has shrimp too. Not the big kind like they have on shrimp nite though.
They have the best chicken fingers in the world. Huge chunks of deep fried chicken breast, there is always a line for them when they come out fresh and sometimes I get into fist fights with elderly people for the fresh chicken strips. Knocked a guy in a walker clean off his feet. He went over and settled for pot roast.

Just a note to clear up a fine point.
Copper Sulfate is a commonly used algaecide, but in recommended doses it generally does not kill other aquatic plants. CS tends to be of pretty short term effectivness on algae, especially in hard water. The copper will bind with disolved minerals in the water and precipitate out to become tied up the the bottom muck. I'm not sure what effect it might have there on snails.
I'm not going to get into the Golden Corral thing.
