A little wisdom please, what motor for my 9' Jon Boat?

I picked up a 9ft Jon Boat. It’s rated for 319lbs and for a 5HP outboard. I do a little fishing and I might use it for duck hunting.

I was thinking of a 2 or 3.5, 2-stroke outboard? Would a motor like that have enough power to push a boat up stream?

How about electric? A few places only allow electric motors but it seems a lot heavier with a battery then a gas motor and less power.

Been there--done that. Don't go with anything less than the recommended 5-hp; even then you'll be moving slow.
