From what I hear, this is the engine that put OMC out of Business. I believe the engines were blowing up within the first 25 hours of operation. I understand that they had so many warranty claims that they had to file bankruptcy.

Hey everyone,
I've heard nightmares about the Evinrude FICHT. Anyone have any stories (good or bad) about it?

he's right. i looked at a boat with a ficht on it and went to my mechanic and asked about it. he just flat out said he wouldnt own unless it was given to him and even then he would just put it on a boat and sell it and never put it in the water. this is a diehard rude man too.
go look @ an evinrude e-tec sweet
I have an evinrude 175 ficht, it is an 2004. It has been a very good engine.. so far. Quick starting, and quite running. I think you all might of heard of some of the larger engines blowing. More in the 225 than the 200's. But so far, mine has been good to me. When I bought my boat, I was trying to decide on a Yamaha or Evinrude when I ordered. I had an Yamaha on my last boat and it was a good engine. Had it for 13yrs and no problems. I had a friend that had a Evinrude and it ran great. So I took a chance and went with the Rude. But in anythings happens to this engine in the next 3 years, I will go back to the Yamaha. thanks
it was mostly the big ones but if they were fixed before they blew they were strong good running as well my friend has a 200 on a 99 tr 20 nad it runs awesome.
