Anyone chasing smallies at Cumberland? Have not been at night since last year and those guys were 50-60 foot deep. Just did not seem to come up the times I was there. Probably the slowest year for me for a long time. Has it changed this year since they are yankin the water around?

We use to have several members on here that would answer posts concerning the big C. Seems we have lost those guys. I fish Cumberland nore than anywhere else however I haven't been down since April this year so I don't know how much help I could supply. For whatever reason the night bite for smalljaws has not been good for the last few years down there as compared to years past for some reason, I'm not sure why. Fellas I've talked to and myself are catching a few fish but not like it was. Traditionally main lake points and secondary points just inside the mouths of creeks with dark colored jig and pig combos and slow rolled spinnerbaits will get you a brown bass or two. But like I say it's not what it used to be in my humble opinion. Go a few miles more and hit Dale, I heard they were wearing their heads out down there right now.
I believe with all the gas prices and everthing the expense has just gotten to great. Me and a friend use to travel down there every couple of weeks but it was a 2 hour drive from where I live. I believe most folks have just started fishing closer to home.Laurel has been hot the last couple of years and is a lot closer for me to fish compared top where I like to fish on Cumberland. Not hard to bust a big bill going down there and then try explaining it to the wife ...LOL. But this time of year I like those deep banks in faubush with jigs or red spinnerbaits. Shinbone cliff can produce some good brownfish also.
Slow and steady during this heat wave. Jigs and Texas rigged plastics. Catching more largemouth (up to 23"). Only fished one night this week, 3 keepers close to main lake. This cool front will mess this up I'm sure.
