I've been down the last 3 weekends and DH has produced some nice smallies in the 3 to 5lb range. All the fish were caught at night and early morning. Every fish came of a punisher jig or bitsy bug that is dark in color. (all different combo of color) Fished main lake points and secondary creek points. Some fish came out of grass beds in 17 to 25 feet of water. All the fish were caught between 15 and 25 feet. Jumps early in the morning produced one smallie on a spitten shad. I have only fished the lower end of the lake. Water temps have risen from 78 to 81 over the last 3 weeks. I have a feeling that this will influence the depth and bite as the lake warms even more. Hope this helps. We do get to fish a very special lake. God Bless
Thanks for the info... I will be coming out of Holly Creek because thats where our houseboat is located..
I haven't had much luck in 2 trips.
I guess I zigged when I should have zagged. Main lake and the secondary points didn't produce squat on jigs, and spinnerbaits. I've got a couple of weeks off and may go back and give it another try. Anybody that wants to ride with me in my boat and be a guide, holler.
I'll may just have to go back to Barkley and catch a 100 or so a day to feel better.
You ought to try guiding if you can catch a 100 or so.Where do you put in at on Barkley?
Has anyone been catching anything else on Dale lately?? I had heard of some people catching some big red ear and bluegill down there but thats about all i heard. Just wondering because I will need to find some fish to catch during the day too... I don't plan on sleeping this weekend ha
I posted here about my trips down to Barkley. The fishing was so good I made 3 straight trips in 3 consecutive weeks, for 3 days of fishing each trip. I basically spent everyday I was off work fishing. The weekend preceding July 4th was the last trip.
Located some huge schools of smaller fish 12-14", that would hit poppers, small rattle traps, small crankbaits, or kastmasters. The best day they bit for 6 straight hours, dang near non-stop.
The best group of big fish, consisted of a double limit of 3- 4 1/2 #s, up on top of a flat, around snags, 4 ft deep, above a channel edge. Our double limit day was shortened (with the fish still biting) when my batteries went dead, against the wind. We caught the last couple of keepers drifting, but missed several, cause we were drifting too fast in the wind. Caught the majority on a c-rig lizard. It was on the same day, as day 3 of the BASS elite tourney. Both of us would have fared well if we'd been in it, as 14 of the 50 pros didn't catch a limit.
Dale Hollow though is a different story. I'd have to fish 3 months there, to catch a weekends worth of fish at Barkley.
