    Favorite fish story...

Just wondering about your alls favorite fish story....

Mine happened about 5 years ago at Taylorsville. Dad and I were fishing some laydowns around the dam area. I was swimming a jig out alongside the laydowns...I was out about 20' from the bank when my line took off, set the hook..broke'er off. Went down the bank approx. 100 yards. using same exact jig and WHAM! right on the bank. This time I got'er in. A 3lber. but as I was removing my jig, I noticed something down it's throat...my jig!! So what are the odds of fishing down a hundred yard stretch of bank, and catching a fish I had just broken off 20 mintues ago. And I am 100% sure that it was my jig. So I caught a decent (dumb) fish and got my jig back! True story..

    RE: Favorite fish story...

Got one like that. Started a tournament on Barkley and my partner in the front gets a bite, goes on point and sets the hook...Strike One. Reels in to find no lizard on his line, "small one" he says. I throw out about 20 feet past where the hit was and after puling out a backlash my brush hog is no where to be found so i set the hook and call for the net. 16" largemouth when I go to take the bait out, he had swallowed the hook, brush hog and what you know a little lizard. I threw the lizard back to my buddy and thanked him for leaving me the little fish.... Guess he got the last laugh, he ended up catching a 2-3 keepers on the lizard after I gave it back...............<><...........
    HOW YAWL DOING>.....

    RE: Favorite fish story...

Talk about getting a lure back--last fall I was on Nolin throwing a RattleTrap on a flat in a wide/flat cove I like to fish. I threw past a brush pile that was in two or three feet of water at the time. As the lure came past I got a big hit from a big fish that immediately went into the brush. I saw the fish several times while trying to get him out but I finally broke off and thought the fish got away.

Then a couple months later I was fishing the same area and saw a brush pile (completely out of the water by then) with the skeleton of a big bass in it. Sure enough the bass still had my woodgrabber stuck in its mouth and the hooks were also stuck in the brush.

    RE: Favorite fish story...

I was fishing Trammel Creek where it goes under I think 31 E .. I was trying to catch some early spring trout. I was drifting a worm down the current and something hit the worm. I set the hook and apparently the line caught on a bur on the eye and broke.
I went back to the tackle box and restrung and rebaited and was walking up the creek when I noticed the bobber staying in one place, going up and down about 4 feet past a big log laying crossways in the creek. Somehow the line got caught on the log. I started to ignore it and then started thinking that some fish would hang itself up and I waded in to get the line and bobber. When I pulled on the line it tugged back. I slowly pulled the line between my fingers on my left hand and something swam between my legs. Having seen several eels caught on Barren Below the dam I was a bit worried especially when the critter got to my hand as I pulled it in. It was long and slimy... and my FIRST EVER Rainbow Trout..
And that is my story and I am sticking too it.

    RE: Favorite fish story...

I was fishing with my father late one evening on Dix River. It was almost dark and getting hard to see. He had a favorite hanging tree in the bend of the river that produced a good bass from time to time. I was watching him out of the corner of my eye as he he made his cast up under the hanging limb. As soon as the Creek Cub Plunker hit the water there was a tremendous explosion. He had the thing hooked, and it was ripping off line by the yards down stream. Finally, I sat down on a long and watched the battle for over 35 minutes. Up and down the river went his line. Early in the game, he had no control in this battle. By now, it was getting hard to see but the evening light was still illuminating the surface of the river in reflected light. Finally, my dad worked this creature up to the bank and to his surprise it crawled out on the bank, climbed a tree, barked like a dog, spread it's wings and flew off. And to this day, we still don't know what this thing was.

    RE: Favorite fish story...

I grew up in northern WVa. My mom was from Ohio and my dad and I fished several lakes in eastern OH. I guess I was about 11 and we were fishing Piedmont lake one early summer evening just before dark. I was casting a size 0 Mepps spinner towards the bank when I got a snag. About the time my dad asked if I was snagged, the snag took off. I fought a giant fish for maybe a minute or so, when my line broke. I thought my world had ended, I wanted that monster so bad. We figured it had to be a flathead to have fought like it did. I sat and cried and my dad just sat there smiling. He knew that those things would happen again all through life.
    I miss my dad.

    This Happened To My Partner

My partner and I sometimes say "how ya'll doin" whenever we think the other is taking a leak from the boat. Kinda like we are greeting someone that the other person didn't see. You do this for so long and eventually the other person doesn't pay much attention to your comment. If anything he proceeds to see how high and far of a rooster tail he can create (if you know what I mean).

One day me and my partner were practicing for a tournament when as I began to move the boat around a point he decide to do his business. As soon as I got a little angle around the corner of that point, I could see at least three people fishing from the bank. Pretty sure they appeared in the movie "Deliverance". Anyway, you can guess what happened; "How ya'll doin?" I proceeded to comment. Sure enough my ole partner was letting her fly for all it was worth. To this day, I am not sure who had the most interesting look on their face, my partner after he seen those guys on the bank or those ole boys checking out my partner putting on a "water" show for 'em.

    "How ya'll doin?"

But I got the white man's disease, so I have to use a gatorade bottle so I don't dribble all over my boat....lol Plus I can at least pour the liquid out in the port-a-potty's when I get back to the ramp when done fishin...

    RE: Favorite fish story...

I was just getting into bass fishing and my dad and I were fishing a strip pit in early spring in Central Illinois. I threw a worm out and walked away to go pick some morel mushrooms I saw on the trip over to the bank. A few minutes later I walked over to my pole and it was halfway in the water. I grabbed it and started reeling. I have dead-sticked a 7 1/2 lb largemouth. I ran over to my dad yelling (because it was the biggest thing I'd ever see bass wise around my area). We weighed it, but had no camera to take a picture. I asked if we should mount it and my dad responded " Nah, throw it back youll catch a bigger one someday". I am still waiting to catch a bigger one so I can send my father the bill for the replica.

On a side note, a rather funny story happened to me today. While trying to find spots on the Blue River in Indiana to fish for Smallies, I came upon this great looking area I thought was Rothrock mill. I parked my truck next to a SUV and another truck I figured were fishing there. As I got out and heard a voice, I looked and was parked in between two DNR trucks. The DNR officer asked me what I was doing and planned on doing and what was I doing parking in his yard. I explained who I was and where I was from and how I had no idea where I was. The guy just laughed and said he was just giving me the business. He drew me a map of where I should go and we talked for a good fifteen minutes about the river and other areas to fish (he was luckily a guide there). So if he reads this, thanks for the help!
