October tell me where to fish

Planning three day trip in October. What should be on at this time of year. Small mouth Dale Hollow? Stripers at Lake C. Crappie Ky Lake?
Walleye on the C river? What would you say the best bet would be?

Stipers at Cumberland should be starting to turn on again and get into the jumps.

Musky at Cave Run should be going into a hot bite.

When in October...there is big difference between the beginning of October and the end of October.

What is the difference. I assume the north end cools sooner than the south end?

In early October the fish are in transition from summer to fall patterns...in late October the fish are established on fall patterns...that is the difference.

Go to Barren river lake and have a ball burning up the big Kentucky Bass. They are going wild that time of year there. Topwater-jigs-cranks, They will all work. Have fun, I may see you there.

I'm spoiled. I'd hit Cumberland, at Jamestown area, maybe even stay in Jamestown Marina's Motel. Sits right on top the marina, and ya can watch for jumps any time you're in the room. Get a slip, saves the hauling.

Morning, I'd hit mouth of Lilly and Wolfe and look for jumps, room some down poles with shiners, suckers, or shad at about 20-30 foot.
Afternoons I'd Greasy of clifty Creeks for Crappy, bluegills, bass.
Even, back to Lilly for jumps till dark, then at dark, start at Lilly mouth, pull boards with live bait from surface to 40 foot, from there along the channel break to Jamestown.

What I like about this is no matter the weather, no major runs to make, fog can't stop me, fishing every year in last 5 I've gone has been great.

Now about gas, any you'll think I'm crazy. I put 2 each 5 gallons plastic gas cans in the truck, empty when I go. While there, if I need it, I'll fill them up down town, and hump to the boat at the slip. That time of year you can darn near always find a parking space right at the top of the stairs to the dock. Good news, they have dock carts always available. Second good news, while there's a big stair case from motel to dock, its all DOWN hill when the cans are full, and uphill the cans are empty.
Dock hits ya for a buck more a gallon, so any time you do this little gas can shuffle, you save 10 bucks. To me, that 2 more six packs of good beer!

PLAN A: Largemouth on Kentucky Lake/Blood River
PLAN B: Go deer hunting near a freshly picked bean field!

You sound like my kind of fishing partner. We are thinking it might be the best time of year to go fishing as everyone is in the football mode, school is in full swing and it is cool enough to keep all pleasure boaters at bay.

I will send your e-mail to my buddies and let them vote on where we are going
