When you see that very first redbud tree start to blume, bring your jerkbait rod out and a sack full of Suspending Rouges and you will be amazed at the number of good quality smalljaws that cumberland has in it.

For all you big water vets out there, when does the jerkbait/fluke bite start on the big C??? I missed out on most of the spring fishing last year due to being afraid of taking the boat out by myself and to not getting it until the latter part of March.

Shwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
When the water temp hits a solid 44 or so and stays there for several days the jerk bait is pretty effective. Alternate back and forth between jerk bait and a suspending crankbait fished with a stop and go retrieve. It will produce good fish as well.

There are'nt any smallmouth in Cumberland they are all in Dale Hollow.
I'll second or third it---SHWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!! See you all down there!
Last Saturday I had a largemouth that was pushing the 6 pound mark pretty hard spit my Rogue back at me right at the boat. Last year they were hitting it real good in February.
THANKS!!!! I've got some new pointers and rouges that I'm itching to try out!
LAST EDITED ON Mar-09-06 AT 10:31PM (EST)[p]Most put better hooks on hard jerkbaits (rogue, husky jerk). If your using suspended jerkbaits don't forget to pause for up to 5 seconds. Then hang on for the jerk at the other end.
